Refurbished Galaxy Note 7 begins appearing in the wild

The company has said that it expects operating profit to be around 9.9 trillion Korean won (£6.9bn) for the first quarter of 2017, with sales valued at approximately 50 trillion won (£35bn).

Results in the first quarter seem likely to mirror those in the last three months of 2016, when Samsung similarly reported a sharp increase in profits and flat sales thanks to good business at its memory chip unit. To give this some context, this would become Samsung's second highest quarterly operating profit ever, beaten only by its 10.16 trillion won (~$9.34 billion) in Q3 of 2013. That could help it stage a comeback in the wake of a string of controversies. Last week, it presented and began taking preorders for its Galaxy S8, its first major smartphone launch since the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

South Korean prosecutors Friday accused the heir to the Samsung business empire of embezzling funds, committing perjury and playing a key role in a corruption scandal that led to the ouster of former President Park Geun-Hye.

Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co., arrives for his trial at the Seoul Central District Court in Seoul, South Korea, Friday, April 7, 2017.

Greenpeace East Asia campaigner Jude Lee said (via BBC): "While we welcome this news, Samsung must share as soon as possible more detailed timelines on when it will implement its promises, as well as how it intends to change its production system to make sure this never happens again".

He went immediately to the dressing room, returned for one shift in the second and then exited for good with an upper-body injury. The Maple Leafs struck back 29 seconds later when van Riemsdyk potted his 27th goal of the season from the high slot.

Song said Samsung was unaware of Park's friend, Choi Soon-sil, until after the scandal over their relationship and allegations of influence-peddling surfaced late previous year.

Samsung also said in January that conditions were likely to be tough this year, guiding for a "slowdown" in the smartphone sector and more competition in the market for display panels.

Samsung is clearly back in the game now with their Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus but should you go big and get the bigger model with a bigger battery and display or is the smaller model the better choice. Samsung will provide details about this report at the end of April. Apart from consumer electronics where it sells Smartphones, TVs, ACs etc. Samsung is also world's largest memory chip maker which is why its deal with Qualcomm saw it suck all the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipsets in the initial phase.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are all set to be released later this month.
