Nothing is finalized yet as Smith has only begun early talks with the studio to star in the film, but we can expect to hear something soon. Though no one would be able to replace William's as the Genie (Disney tried once and it didn't really work for them), Smith definitely has the magnetic personality that could fit the part.

Smith was in line to star in Tim Burton's Dumbo movie, but had to pass due to a scheduling conflict. Those are big shoes to fill, but Smith has the acting chops, not to mention the musical background, to pull it off. He did, after all, become a household name after playing a young rapper in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) is directing the new Aladdin movie, working from a script by John August (Big Fish). Additionally, Smith is well known for his musical prowess, which is bound to come in handy given the fact that Aladdin, like Beauty and the Beast is slated to be a live-action musical.

If Will agrees to appear in Aladdin, he will have to commit to a six month shoot which is set to begin in the United Kingdom in July. The film set multiple opening weekend records in March and has brought in more than $1 billion, according to Box Office Mojo data. The movie follows the story of a street urchin named Aladdin who falls in love with Princess Jasmine and finds a magical lamp containing the Genie, who grants him three wishes.
