The officers had gone to the house Price shares with his mother after receiving a tip-off from Australian police that the teenage girl had boarded a plane from Sydney to Los Angeles on April 11, court documents say.

The 39-year-old allegedly met the 16-year-old girl from Sydney via Snapchat and began grooming her for photos before paying to fly her from Sydney to the USA last month, 7NEWS reports.

The 17-year-old, from Guinea in western Africa, sought help at the Asylum Seekers Centre on Bedford Street in Newtown late last month, saying she had just escaped from a house somewhere in Sydney's metropolitan area where she had been held captive, police said.

In the early hours of April 27, the teenager managed to escape from the house and ran until she was picked up by the woman and taken to the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown.

The NSWPF State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad are also investigating, and are now focused on identifying the teenager's Good Samaritan.

The teenager told police she fled the unknown location before being picked up by a woman who drove her to a community centre.

The girl said in January she met a man in her home country who offered to bring her to Australia as his cleaner and in April they travelled together to Sydney via Paris.

The AFP's Human Trafficking Unit is continuing their inquiries to determine when the girl arrived in Australia, and identify the man with which she travelled.

She told staff she had been dropped off by a woman who found her after she had escaped from a house, where she had been held captive and regularly sexually assaulted.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00 or 131 AFP (131 237).

Price has allegedly admitted to police that he paid for the girl to fly to the U.S. and took her on a cross-country road trip, having sex with her along the way.
