Browns No. 1 overall pick Myles Garett signs rookie contract

The Browns announced Friday that defensive end Myles Garrett had officially signed his rookie contract.

During his time as a standout at Texas A&M, the two-time All-American recorded 31 sacks, 141 tackles and seven forced fumbles. Garrett's four-year deal is worth an estimated $30.4 million and includes a $20.3 million guaranteed signing bonus.

The 6-foot-4 1/2, 272-pound Aggies standout was held to 8 1/2 sacks last season while he dealt with a high-ankle sprain.

Garrett was on a conference call soon after being drafted on April 27 and stirred the Browns rivalry with Pittsburgh by saying one of the first things on his agenda was sacking Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The Browns open next season against the Steelers, their longtime rival who has overpowered Cleveland in recent years.

The former presidential candidate met with Trump Wednesday and the Associated Press reported that he said it was a "good meeting". He was one of four potential candidates to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Trump was interviewing.

"Unlike what [a reporter] said, he said I was slow off the ball, but that is coming from the very best", Garrett told reporters Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns have locked up the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. That's what any team would say or any player would say. So we just trust them and their decisions. "It gives him an awesome opportunity to be really successful for us and an impact player Day One".

The Browns now have six of their draft picks under contract: third-round defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, fourth-round defensive Howard Wilson, fifth-round offensive lineman Rod Johnson, seventh-round kick Zane Gonzalez and seventh-round running back Matthew Dayes. I haven't been around a lot of guys like him.
