Paul Clement: Spurs sting should sway Sigurdsson to stick with Swans

Sigurdsson has scored nine goals and made 13 assists during a hard top-flight campaign for Swansea - a combined tally matched only by Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Swansea City boss Paul Clement has pleaded with Gylfi Sigurdsson to remain at the Liberty Stadium despite interest from Everton and says the Icelandic worldwide should try and avoid getting into a similar situation he found himself in at Tottenham.

Football pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Everton should be ready to "cash in" on Ross Barkley, whilst targeting Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson as an ideal replacement.

Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson says he is "not trying to leave" the Premier League club.

Manager Ronald Koeman has seemingly become frustrated with the situation and has left the midfielder with an ultimatum - sign a new deal or be prepared to leave in the summer.

Despite the Swans spending the majority of the season in a relegation battle where they eventually secured their Premier League safety with one game to spare, the 27-year-old admitted.

While Sigurdsson, who was named as Swansea's player of the year by both his peers and the side's supporters, has been linked with a possible move to the likes of Everton in the offseason, he says that his first priority is fulfilling his current contract at the Liberty Stadium. "That's what he has got here at Swansea, and I hope he stays here".

"It has been easy in the last couple of months because we've been in a very serious position in the league, so it's been easy to concentrate on that, Sigurðsson added".

"I think for as long as he's here the club is in really good hands". Sigurdsson has great vision, assisting 13 goals for Swansea this season - five more than Barkley and second only to Kevin De Bruyne, who has 15.

"A lot of players have to make that decision in their careers".
