Trump Congratulates Macron On 'Big' Win In French Presidential Election

European leaders were visibly relieved, and rightly so, as a Le Pen win would have presented a deep and immediate challenge to the future of the European Union.

The National Front, far from crying into the pastis are looking for major gains in the legislative elections in June.

The opponents of Macron likely to follow the policies of Donald Trump like Le Pen would like to take France out of global institutions, including both the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation; block borders; curtail trade; and impose quasi-Marxist state-dominated economics. An independent centrist who has never before run for office, he is set to become the youngest-ever elected French head of state.

Leaders from around the world and other political heavyweights have sent congratulatory messages to Macron.

Macron will appoint his new premier the day after the inauguration, according to an adviser who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue.

But one recent poll by OpinionWay-SLPV Analytics, for the Les Echos newspaper, projected that Macron's party would win the largest share - possibly a majority - of parliament's 577 seats.

Mr. Macron, a former economy minister, has proposed an ambitious domestic reform agenda. Macron "must stretch out his hand to the millions of voters of the right and of the center who were not represented in the runoff", Le Maire told RTL radio.

But we must appreciate the mature voters of France and Ennamuel Macron who have rejected the rigid thoughts of Le Pen.

On Monday, though, Hollande gripped Macron's arm before the two men walked side by side and then announced the transfer of power would take place on Sunday, a week after the election.

"I will fight with all my strength against the divisions that are undermining us", he said.

"If Macron fails, then the next president will be Marine Le Pen and we need to prevent this at all costs", he added.

Addressing his supporters in the grand courtyard of the Louvre, Macron said he would defend France and Europe.

The French president is elected to a five-year term.
