Apple Thinks Its Smart HomePod Will 'Reinvent' Home Audio

And say what you will about the HomePod name itself, or whether or not a superior audio experience will even be able to lure buyers away from the more wallet-friendly Echo and Google Home, it's hard not to marvel at the engineering resources Apple poured into its forthcoming smart speaker. "If you have other devices connected to Apple's smart home app, you can control them through the speaker as well".

Amazon has a big head start on HomePod, which Apple says won't ship until December. By saying, "Hey Siri, I like this song", HomePod and Apple Music become the musicologist, learning preferences from hundreds of genres and moods, across tens of thousands of playlists, and these music tastes are shared across devices. Speaking as a guest on CNBC's "Squawk Alley" segment on Tuesday, he explained that Apple gave a demonstration of HomePod's music playing capabilities during the WWDC presentation on Monday but Siri's functions was completely left out of the presentation.

HomePod will initially be available from December in the UK, US and Australia.

Apple may be ready to catch up to Amazon's Echo and Google's Home speaker.

In totality, the HomePod managed to impress the first bunch of reviewers, but does it have in it what it takes to commercially take down the Google Home, Amazon Echo or Sonos Play:3? The research firm eMarketer says than 35 million people in the USA are expected to use a voice-activated speaker at least once a month this year, more than double its estimate from last year.

For now, it looks like Apple's HomePod does not offer any breakthroughs in comparison to other devices, and the company hasn't talked about support for other services besides Apple Music. Coming to the market a little late in the game, only time will tell. Well, that's no longer the case, so perhaps we will start to see Apple TV units popping up in there? The company displayed that it was continuing to bet on the tablets by unveiling an iPad upgrade. Until then, Amazon will remain the smart home market's most popular device maker. Simple: Apple and Amazon don't really get along in the VOD space, as they're both competing with one another - though I'd wager Amazon does a lot better.

Boohoo shares soar after firm raises £50m for new warehouse
Revenue in the last fiscal stood at £295 million and its guidance for the ongoing fiscal, FY'18, stands above £470 million. The cost of the land and construction of the warehouse is expected to cost about £150m over the next three years.

What's far more debatable is how much the average consumer values high-fidelity audio, and how much they're willing to pay for it. Apple said that comparable systems comprised of high-fidelity Wi-Fi speakers paired with a smart virtual assistant can cost anywhere from $400 to $700, which it used to justify the $350 price tag.

Dubbed High Sierra, Apple's senior vice president of software, Craig Federighi, joked that when he raised the point that the name "might be miscontrued" the team assured him it was "fully baked".

Apple had plenty of other announcements. The new thing is that it automatically displays all the important information with the same type of intelligence that is applied to iOS, and the access to Siri is very easy.

Apple also may introduce its next Mac computer, along with the next operating system powering the machine.

Safari, Apple's web browser, is getting new features aimed at online annoyances.
