CNN sues Justice Department for copies of Comey memos

Trump's Friday morning tweet capped off 24 hours of comments on Twitter about the investigation, including several remarks about his opponent in the 2016 election. President Donald Trump's closest allies are attacking the integrity of those involved in the wideni.

The House and Senate Intelligence Committees are investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 campaign, including possible collusion between Trump associates and Moscow.

Comey, who was sacked on May 9, told a Senate panel last week he believed Trump dismissed him to undermine the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

"This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" the U.S. president tweeted.

Mr Trump may have been referring to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who in a memo to Mr Trump raised concerns over Mr Comey's performance. He testified that he leaked information about the notes through a friend to the Times to increase pressure for the appointment of a special prosecutor after he concluded Trump's administration "defamed" him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after his May 9 firing.

The second, the source continued, is whether if any potential offences were committed, Trump or others attempted to cover them up or obstruct the investigation into them.

The President's tweet sparked immediate speculation about the future of the official, Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a memo recommending Comey be ousted and also later approved the appointment of a special counsel - Robert Mueller - to lead the Russian Federation probe.

"Failure to follow these protocols could result in criminal or civil penalties, and could form the basis of legal claims, legal presumptions, or jury instructions relating to spoliation of evidence", the memo warns former Trump transition team members.

Severe thunderstorms expected Monday afternoon, evening
Any storm that develops has the potential to produce damaging winds over 60 miles per hour , flooding rains and unsafe lightning. By Monday evening the activity should start to die down and be out of here by Tuesday morning, taking the humidity with it.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", a spokesman for Trump's legal team, Mark Corallo, said. They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice. "Nice", Trump wrote in his first tweet.

Trump is accused of firing FBI director James Comey over his refusal to steer the Russian Federation investigation away from former national security adviser and Trump ally Mike Flynn.

The special counsel is following two major lines of investigation, said one source. The Department of Justice has a long established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations.

Trump is under increasing pressure on the Russian Federation probe.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

The letter said the investigation will also probe Comey's testimony that Loretta Lynch, as President Barack Obama's attorney general, had directed him to describe an FBI probe into Hillary Clinton's email practices as merely a "matter" and to avoid calling it an investigation. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation.

Recent news reports have suggested Trump sought all three officials' help in pressuring FBI Director James Comey to drop his investigation into former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn. Because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the probe, it was Rosenstein who appointed Mueller to the job. "I can go around them", the tweet read. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday.
