Cosby jury reviews accuser's testimony amid deliberations

The jury is in its third day of deliberations in the sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby.

Cosby has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge, and has claimed that in 2004, he and Constand had a consensual sexual encounter. They were brought in from Allegheny County (near Pittsburgh) and were sequestered in a hotel.

Jurors have deliberated for more than 21 hours since getting the case Monday. They are still ongoing at this time. "The judge was very adamant that the jury's job, and it's not ours because we don't hear all of the evidence, but they are the ones who are going to hear every piece, every shred of evidence and it's for them to make a decision not based on bias or anything else, except for the facts of the case". That same day, the jury asked to hear read-backs of police testimony about Cosby's 2005 interview with police at his attorney's NY law office.

Cosby refused to testify and his lawyers called just one witness, a police detective, before resting their case minutes later on Monday.

Downtown Norristown, where the famous comedian is awaiting a verdict in his sexual assault case at the Montgomery County courthouse, is a rundown suburb dotted with row homes, a few automotive shops, and fast food restaurants. He faces up to ten years in prison for each charge.

About 60 other women have made similar allegations against the former star of the hit 1980s TV family comedy The Cosby Show, but only Ms Constand's accusation is recent enough to allow for criminal prosecution.

She testified last week that he gave her a substance that incapacitated her and then he sexually assaulted her.

Cosby, once known as America's Dad for his portrayal of kindly Dr. Cliff Huxtable on "The Cosby Show", told police he left Constand to sleep on the couch after their "romantic interlude" while he moved upstairs to his bedroom.

But as the deliberations drag on, noted Toronto defence lawyer Monte MacGregor told the Toronto Sun the lack of a verdict suggests a stalemate in the jury room. Constand has alleged that Cosby sexually assaulted her at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004.

She woke up on the couch early in the morning with her clothes disheveled, she said. It never happened, but the suggestion was enough to dominate the headlines just as prosecutors were closing their case with Cosby's damaging deposition testimony.

As they pored over Cosby's words, the jurors appeared to struggle with some language in one of the charges against him: "without her knowledge".

"I was mistaken", she said. Cosby is accused of raping a woman who was 15 years old at the time. Cosby, who is legally blind and carries a cane, has arrived in court each day with someone from the world of entertainment. In the deposition, which became public almost two years ago, Mr. Cosby said he gave Ms. Constand three half-tablets of the cold and allergy medicine Benadryl.
