In Spite of Tweet, Lawyer Says Trump Not Under Investigation

Representatives for President Trump's son-in-law have reached out to these attorneys because Kushner's allies have been questioning the connection between Kushner's current lawyer and Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the report said.

President Donald Trump, first lady Melania and their son, Barron, walk to Marine One across the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Saturday, en route to Camp David in Maryland.

A U.S. official who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity told Reuters on Thursday that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation.

Even after the President himself tweeted about being under investigation in relation to the summary dismissal of FBI Chief James Comey, his attorney has done an about face and denied that it is true.

This is, however, a tough sell, in part because multiple major news organizations have confirmed that the president is in fact being investigated for obstruction of justice, and in part because of phrases such as "I am being investigated" and "He's being investigated" don't lend themselves to nuanced interpretations.

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", Mr. Sekulow said on CNN.

Challenged on "Fox News Sunday" about the issue, Sekulow said he could not be certain Trump was not under investigation but that no one had notified the legal team if that was the case.

A case in point is the firing of Comey and Trump's subsequent admission that he had Russian Federation on his mind when he dismissed the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, an admission that could provide a rationale for an obstruction of justice probe. Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and has expansive powers to probe any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

Theresa May to 'reflect' after losing majority in Parliament
Instead, the result has sown confusion and division in British ranks, just days before negotiations are due to start on June 19. She has already weathered the numerous immediate calls for her to resign.

It all stems from the president's May 12 tweet: "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

The White House has been given until Friday by the House Intelligence Committee to provide an answer as to whether the recordings actually exist.

With Twitter, "the president has an ability to communicate with a broad sloth of people of 107 million", said Sekulow. Schiff said if the panel can't get an answer then he believes a subpoena will be needed.

"We're in uncharted waters in all kinds of ways", said Robert Ray, who succeeded Ken Starr as independent counsel in the investigation of various Bill Clinton scandals. As Rachel noted on Friday's show, the White House balked soon after, arguing that just because the president wrote, "I am being investigated", it doesn't mean he's being investigated. "There's a lot of information yet to go".

"The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt", Trump tweeted on Sunday.

The government-owned retreat for presidents since Franklin D. Roosevelt is more rustic than Trump's usual gilded surroundings.

Over the weekend, attorney Jay Sekulow appeared on CBS News "Face The Nation" and contradicted that claim.

A source familiar with the matter told CNN's Evan Perez that investigators for Mueller would speak with Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers. "I don't think it serves him well", former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Trump supporter, on ABC's "This Week", adding that the President was right to be infuriated by "this whole Russian Federation baloney".
