Russian Federation threatens to target United States coalition jets after Syrian warplane shot down

Russia's defense ministry said Monday that military aircraft flown by the USA -led coalition over Syrian government-controlled areas west of the Euphrates River will be tracked as potential targets.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that as of Monday, all coalition jets and drones flying west of the Euphrates River will be tracked as potential targets.

CNN reported late Sunday that, per a USA military statement, the American fighter jet shot down the Syrian warplane after it had dropped bombs on and near the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) near the town of Ja'Din, located in the northern central part of the war-torn country.

Sunday's downing of the jet and Russia's response on Monday further complicate Syria's six-year war and come as the US-led coalition and allied fighters battle to remove the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group from its Syrian bastion, Raqqa.

The previous Conservative government first deployed Aurora surveillance planes, a Polaris air-to-air refueller and six CF-18 fighter jets to participate in the USA -led air campaign against ISIL in October 2014.

In a move that will fan tensions between Washington and Moscow, Russia made clear it was changing its military posture in response to the USA downing of a Syrian military jet on Sunday, something Damascus said was the first such incident since the start of the country's conflict in 2011.

Russia's defense ministry says it is suspending coordination with the United States in Syria over so-called "de-confliction zones" after the Americans downed a Syrian government fighter jet. The Syrian warplane was carrying out a combat mission to provide air cover for government troops units, which mounted an offensive against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) near the populated locality of al-Rasafeh.

The FTC Moves To Block The Merger Of FanDuel And DraftKings
The suit does not mean there has been any finding of guilt, only that there is a reason to believe the merger violates the law. If the FTC gets its way, the merger will be held up pending the result of the trial that is set to start in November.

The clashes come as both sides are fighting against the Islamic State group, with SDF fighters now focusing on their march into the northern city of Raqqa, the de facto capital of IS. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said. "This attack comes at a time when the Syrian Arab army and its allies are advancing in the fight against ISIS terrorists who are being defeated in the Syrian desert in more ways than one". He said government forces began attacking the SDF on Saturday, using warplanes, artillery and tanks in areas that SDF had liberated from IS. It was after that, according to U.S. Central Command, that the Syrian plane dropped bombs near rebel forces and was subsequently shot down.

There are fears Canadian military aircraft operating over Syria could be caught in the middle of a new and potentially explosive dispute between the US and Russian Federation.

"What was it, if not an act of aggression?"

It said the coalition forces did not use existing channels with Russian Federation to avoid incidents over Syria. "The balance of power in Syria is shifting away from Moscow and you are having a more assertive USA presence in the region".

Now the Russians are threatening to shoot down any coalition forces that cross into their airspace.

This is not the first time American forces have dealt a blow to Assad. Dunford said that the U.S.is still working to identify facts on the ground.
