A flight going from Saudi Arabia to India on Sunday (June 18) added one extra passenger midway, when a woman on board went into premature labour. But since there was none travelling on the flight, a nurse volunteered to help deliver the child along with the airline staff. In fact, as the Independent noted, five other infants were born on commercial flights in the a year ago.

She was not as lucky as her Indian counterpart, however, as Kadiju and her Mum received no gift, though perhaps delivering a baby mid-flight without any complications is reward enough.

It marks the first mid-flight birth for the India-based airline, which responded by awarding the newborn a lifetime travel pass for free flights. "The Boeing 737 with 162 guests was diverted to Mumbai as one of the guests went into premature labour", said the Jet Airways in its official statement.

The delivery happened on Jet Airways' Dammam-Kochi flight on Sunday morning.

Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice. "Nice", Trump wrote in his first tweet. The Department of Justice has a long established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations.

The real kicker, though, is that the little boy now has free flights for life on the airline. On landing, both mother and baby were rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital in Mumbai and are doing well.

Jet Airways also informed Jose's family, who are rushing to Mumbai. "The baby was born around 8.45am, while the flight landed at Mumbai at 9.12", said an airport source. "The airline thanks Ms. Wilson for her guidance", a spokesperson said.

It used to be assumed that any baby born mid-air would be be gifted free flights for life by the airline, but in reality it is actually rare.
