President Trump has appointed more people of Indian origin to high office than his predecessors, and this will surely be a factor in the chemistry of his relations with Prime Minister Modi, who too has come to office because of the will of the people, exactly as President Trump has.

Speaking on bilateral collaboration in cutting-edge technology, Modi also announced the setting up of a joint science and technology fund of four million euros.

Modi said he will visit Washington D.C. on June 24-26 at the invitation of the US President.

The highlight of Modi's four-day three-nation visit will be the United States leg as Modi will be meeting President Donald Trump for the first time on June 26 in Washington.

Talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in what would be their first face-to-face meeting would focus on ongoing cooperation, including counter-terrorism and defence partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, besides trade and law enforcement, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has said.

The Washington meeting between two of the most important global statespersons is certain to have important and beneficial consequences, given the strong determination on both sides to ensure that India and the United States form a partnership that is essential to meet the geopolitical challenges of the 21st century. "So, we're looking for ways to cooperate on our mutual interests", a senior administration official told reporters at a news conference in Washington.

Apart from official meetings with Trump and his cabinet colleagues, Modi will be meeting some prominent American CEOs. In the USA, the prime minister will attend a community reception tomorrow and hold talks with Trump on Monday.

"At the same time, India has imposed several new significant barriers that have harmed U.S. producers across all sectors of our economy, including services, manufacturing and agriculture", it added.

"Indians have carried their cultural heritage with them and have always been proud of them", Modi said addressing the diaspora Indians in Lisbon.
