Two trains disabled before entering Penn Station due to power problems

A New Jersey Transit train has become disabled, causing delays in and out of New York Penn Station Saturday evening.

Amtrak authorities said electrical issues with overhead wires were to blame for the latest woes at the beleaguered transit hub. "The train became disabled just west of the station".

"We always have two on standby", the spokesman said of the rescue trains. Amtrak, which owns and operates the station, had been performing the work on nights and weekends and planned to complete it in a few years, but two derailments and other problems this spring persuaded it to step up the pace. And according to Amtrak, the track repairs that it's now administering in the tunnels between ny and New Jersey are going better than expected, too.

Power restored around 1 p.m. and service resumed shortly after.

As reported by the Daily News, an Amtrak train from Miami to NY stalled as it entered Penn Station around 11:50 a.m. Some 600 people were stuck inside without air conditioning.

Timken Steel Corporation (NYSE:TMST) Traded 18.7% Above Its 50 Day Average
The purchase was disclosed in a document filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission, which is available at this link . TimkenSteel Corporation, launched on October 24, 2013, manufactures alloy steel, as well as carbon and micro-alloy steel.

Amtrak crews also got a break from any problems from other track and station infrastructure, that resulted in trains having a 90 percent on-time record this week, Naperstek said.

Friday marked the fifth day of major repairs that are forcing commuter rail lines to cut back schedules at the nation's busiest train station.

Amtrak's chief operations officer called the first week of summer-long track work and corresponding schedule cutbacks for commuters at Penn Station a success.

Saturday's malfunction has nothing to do with the rehab project, officials said.
