United States wins and advances to Gold Cup quarterfinals

In the final game of Group B action at the 2017 Gold Cup, the USA men's national team put together a much-improved performance in a 3-0 victory over Nicaragua. Coach Bruce Arena is expected to avail himself of several additions to his roster - each team is allowed to add six players for the knockout stages. Matt Miazga headed in the USMNT's third goal.

The U.S. finally broke through, scoring in the 37th minute.

Shortly after the restart, Dom Dwyer earned a penalty for the USA, but his subsequent spot kick was blocked by Nicaragua goalkeeper Justo Lorente.

United States of America was on top early as Rowe, in particular, looked risky - the midfielder firing a volley straight at Nicaragua goalkeeper Justo Lorente in the seventh minute. Alejandro Bedoya found him in the box with a good pass, but Corona stalled, waiting too long to shoot. It again was Bedoya setting up the score with an assist.

Israel urged not to release bodies of slain Palestinians
According to media reports the deadly attack took place near the holy site known as the Temple Mount and as Haram al-Sharif. Forty Israelis, two American tourists and a British student have been killed in stabbings, shootings and car-rammings.

The U.S. quickly atoned for the penalty miss when Kelyn Rowe scored his first worldwide goal, in the 56th minute, from a lovely shot with the outside of his right foot, that took a deflection and slipped inside the near post for a 2-0 lead. Corona stepped up to take the second penalty, and he hit a soft effort that Justo Lorente had no problem saving.

Nicaragua made four changes as Cyril Errington, Bismarck Veliz, Bryan Garcia and Luis Peralta replaced Manuel Rosas, Carlos Chavarria, Eulises Pavon and Erick Tellez from the team beaten 2-1 by Panama.

The eventual equalizer came by way of a free kick, following a sending off. Luis Copete picked up his second yellow card in the 85th minute for an elbow to substitute Juan Agudelo, and the Americans scored on the ensuing set piece.

That would be the only goal in the first half, leaving plenty of unrest for a United States team that has struggled to close things out so far in the Gold Cup.
