Liverpool lose? Arsenal's Virgil van Dijk bid lined up

Virgil van Dijk has told Southampton that he only wants to sign for Liverpool this summer, according to reports in the British media.

Liverpool's interest in him is nothing new, although given that they were forced to publicly apologise to Southampton after their approach for the Dutch worldwide previously which resulted in the Saints lodging a formal complaint against them with the Premier League, it looked as though the pursuit was over.

The Liverpool Echo Celtic are hopeful Van Dijk seals his move to Liverpool so they can claim a chunk of the rumoured £75m figure said to be required for the former Groningen man to leave St Mary's this summer.

The race for Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk is back on the agenda on Monday morning.

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami said this morning that it has a 50 percent chance of developing in the next two days. The Hurricane Hunters with the US Air Force are on standby Monday in case they need to gather data within the storm.

However, Saints will not be willing to let him go easily, as he was arguably the best defender in the Premier League last term before he picked up an injury that ruled him out from January to the end of the season.

The Gunners are likely to start with a three-man defence next season, with both Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi expected to be starters, but Van Dijk's arrival could complete that set-up; adding competition for places with the likes of Gabriel Paulista and Rob Holding.

A number of Premier League sides are thought to be tracking Van Dijk, with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly also interested in the 26-year-old, who is valued at around £60million.
