Wimbledon 2017: Jamie Murray & Martina Hingis triumph in final

"It was just like, 'Hi Jamie, want to play with me?'" Hingis said after she and Murray beat defending champions, Henri Kontinen of Finland and another Briton, Heather Watson, 6-4, 6-4 to win the title Sunday.

After the painful end to Andy Murray's title defence, it was left to Jamie to produce the goods and he and Hingis, the No1 seeds, duly clinched victory in 74 minutes.

Hingis and Murray won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title on Sunday, beating Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson 6-4, 6-4 on Centre Court.

For Murray, it was a second Wimbledon mixed doubles title, 10 years after his first, and his fourth Slam win overall, to add to his two men's doubles titles with Bruno Soares.

"I mean, the (men's) doubles for me is obviously my biggest goal of the year", Murray said. "It's going to take something pretty special to potentially take my eye off the ball with it".

It is Murray's second mixed doubles title, following his win with Jelena Jankovic back in 2007.

Hingis's latest Wimbledon triumph came 20 years after her first, when she beat Jana Novotna at the age of 16 to become the youngest singles champion at the grand slam.

"But because it's far away, because of what happened past year, I just like to take the opportunity to thank the people in the very moment, and make them understand, yes, I hope that I'm back".

After Andy Murray and Johanna Konta's exits from the singles, Watson and Jamie Murray were able to deliver two British finalists on Centre Court, even if not the pair that many home fans had wished for. I knew I could do well with her. They earned five break points in the set but Watson couldn't capitalize, often being flummoxed by the Scot's swinging left-handed delivery.

"But like I said, it was a great opportunity". "When she texted me, it was an easy decision to play, she's such a great player".

Kontinen said he and Watson had not taken their chances but they hope to team up again next year. I think the atmosphere's going to be great. 'A odd feeling today, we haven't felt it yet together.
