Twenty-two people died and three were injured in an arson attack in Changshu, Jiangsu Province on Sunday.

The fire broke out before dawn at the building in the town of Yushan in Changshu city, Xinhua said.

An earlier report by the official Xinhua News Agency said more than 20 people lived in the house, citing unnamed sources.

The fire occurred at 4:32 a.m.in Building 74 of Caojing No. 2 neighborhood.

Investigators discovered traces of gasoline at the scene of the fire and found that all the doors of the building had been locked.

A man has since been arrested for allegedly starting the fire. The three face no life-threatening injuries.

Chinese police said they've arrested a suspect arsonist, giving the surname as Jiang.
