Sergio Romero signs new four-year contract at Old Trafford

Romero joined United on a free transfer in 2015 and has proven to be a reliable understudy to first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea.

Sergio Romero has reportedly agreed to sign a new four-year deal with Manchester United.

He is set to compete with David De Gea and youngster Joel Pereira next season.

The Argentina global has made 28 appearances since joining United two years ago, with the highlight coming at the end of last season as he featured in the Europa League final victory over Ajax. Romero will have his hands full in trying to dislodge De Gea as the regular number one, but the latter's future is not clear as reports have resurfaced about Real Madrid's long-standing interest in taking the Spaniard back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The proportions are also easy on the eye and all that is left is for Hyundai to give the vehicle the best performance around. The i30 Fastback is also 115mm longer than the hatch, which also contributes to a sleeker profile.

Manager Jose Mourinho said: "Sergio is a great goalkeeper and professional".

"Sergio deserves his contract, and for Manchester United to have Sergio and David [De Gea] is awesome in such an important role".

"It was announced on Sunday that Romero has inked a new four-year deal that will keep him at United until 2021, and the personable 30-year-old is delighted and proud to have signed", it added. It was in the Europa League games last season that Mourinho started deploying Romero ahead of De Gea and that did pay off. Romero has truly cemented a position for himself and was splendid in the Europa League final against Ajax. "I am really happy to prolong my career here", Romero told MUTV, as quoted by the club's official website.

Argentina's No. 1 was reduced to a watching brief as United's preseason tour kicked off with a 5-2 win at the Los Angeles Galaxy but has been promised a half in their second match. The third match against Man City, we don't play Joel.
