As many as 228 MLAs cast their votes to elect new President of India. Counting of votes in the election will be taken up on July 20 and the result will be known the same evening - four days before the end of the term of President Pranab Mukherjee.

The total population of Manipur is 2.722 million (as per the census of 2011, ) and it is divided by 1000 and to that divided by number of MLAs 60.Like this the vote value of an MLA of Manipur is 45. While Chief Minister K Palaniswami was the first to cast his vote at 10 am, AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) legislator and former Minister S Semmalai was the last to exercise his franchise by 11.56 am.

RJD's Obra MLA Birendra Kumar Sinha, away in Dehradun on a personal visit, cast his vote in the Uttarakhand assembly. Besides Radhakrishnan, Semmalai and Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman were also the authorised representatives of Kovind. Earlier, at about 8.30 am the ballot box was inspected by authorities at the strong room in the Assembly complex and brought to the polling station (conference hall) by 9.10 am. Of the 31 legislators, four are from the Naga People's Front, four from the Nationalist People Party and one independent in the BJP-led coalition headed by N Biren Singh in the assembly.

It was Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh who turned up first to cast the vote for President's election.
