Sindhu thanked Naidu and said that she would focus on her badminton career and stand up to the expectations of the Chief Minister.

Naidu sought Sindhu to excel in her career by winning several medals and also asked her to extend cooperation and services as Group I officer for development of sports sector in the State.

The state government amended the Andhra Pradesh (Regulation of Appointment to Public Services and rationalization of Staff Pattern and Pay Structure) Act, 1994, paving way for direct appointment of Sindhu in Group-1 service after she expressed her interest in taking up the job.

The shuttler said she was happy to receive the appointment letter, but badminton would remain her first priority.

Ace shuttler and Rio Olympics silver medallist P.V. Sindhu was on Thursday appointed deputy collector, a Group-1 service post, in the AP government. She received gifts from the TS government as well.

Chandrababu Naidu had promised a Group-I post to Sindhu when she won the silver medal in Olympics.

The 21-year-old shuttler has been working with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) since 2013 and is now an assistant manager (sports) at its Hyderabad office. She was felicitated with Rs 5 crore cash reward, a residential plot in Hyderabad by the Telangana government while Andhra government gave her a cash prize worth Rs 3 crore.

In addition, the Andhra Pradesh Government had offered her a Group-I officer job of her choice but Sindhu has now made a decision to take it up.
