Arsenal lose Alexis Sanchez but not for good

Arsene Wenger has said that he wants Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to remain at Arsenal and grow into the "very great player" he can become (via The Mirror).

The Gunners will start the 2017-18 season with a home clash against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night. So this will mean, they could concentrate on the Premier League this will be a big boost if the club could convince Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to sign new contracts too.

"I think he had in his career some bad moments because he had some small injuries".

"Sanchez has been focused, but when you have treatment on medical bench it is not easy".

On Sanchez and Ozil's final year of contract, Wenger said: "When a player goes into the final year of their contract we will try to extend the contract because there is no reason we shouldn't do it, but we are not there yet".

'There is no reason not to do it.

Rumours suggested that Sanchez was resigned to staying at Arsenal and leaving on a free transfer once his contract is up, as reported by the Mirror, but with Manchester City and PSG still showing interest in the Chilean, the correct fee could see him depart earlier than anticipated.

'It's a long time I didn't speak to Nasser because [he's] certainly very busy to complete the transfer of Neymar'. They are on (Kylian) Mbappe's case, that's what I read in the papers.

There is still the lingering issue of the future of Diego Costa who was widely expected to leave the club this summer. The Serbian was one of last season's standout players, and his addition would strengthen rivals United.

"Overall I believe that it's down to us".

Wenger added: "I'm convinced in 10 or 15 years it will not necessarily be a football specialist who is a manager of a club". We are not open to any offers anyway'.

Nevertheless, Arsenal will be confident going into their game against Leicester, having beaten Chelsea in the Community Shield five days earlier.

'Will they be available or not?

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez will miss at least two weeks with an abdominal strain picked up before last weekend's Community Shield victory over Chelsea.

"Plenty of uncertainties about players who didn't play against Chelsea - Ramsey, Ozil, Mertesacker".

'I have players coming back who have not played, like Mustafi.
