In a corresponding swap, the Bills acquired Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-rounder from the Eagles for starting-level cornerback Ronald Darby. He played just six snaps with the offense.

Wide receiver Sammy Watkins was sent to the Rams from Buffalo as the centerpiece of a big day of trading for the Bills. Matthews is in the final year of his rookie deal which payed him $4.9 million over four years - compared to the potential pay increase Watkins was going to receive.

"The 5-11, 193-pound Darby was a second-round draft pick of the Bills in 2015".

The Bills, who haven't made the playoffs since 1999, are under new management, with first-year Coach Sean McDermott and General Manager Brandon Beane working quickly to leave a fresh imprint on a team that seems to be forever spinning its wheels. He also had 2,673 receiving yards and 19 TD receptions.

Watkins, the fourth overall pick in 2014, had been long plagued by injuries throughout his professional career - especially in 2016 where he missed the last eight games with a foot fracture. He appeared in 29 games and intercepted two passes while defending 33 passes for the Bills.

Before we get into Darby and what he brings to the Eagles, let's talk about what the Eagles are losing in Matthews. If they release a package of players later this month, they could add another 2018 third-round pick as part of the NFL's compensatory draft pick system.

Matthews has been the best slot receiver in the National Football League over the past three seasons, pulling in more yards from the slot than any other player. But the Eagles signed free-agent receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith in the offseason, drafted Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson and have been pleased with 2015 first-round pick Nelson Agholor's improvement. Matthews had three catches for 18 yards Thursday in the Eagles' 24-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

The Bills are instantly weaker at both receiver and corner.
