New faces on the Premier League merry-go-round

The City line-up for their 1-0 win was all-British but the eleven who will take the field on Saturday will be drawn from around the world - with even more global talent having been recruited during the close-season.

City spent around £120m on full-backs alone, with Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy replacing the four full-backs that left in the summer.

It has been another strong showing of City's financial muscle but Guardiola insists the club have only paid market rates and such major rebuilding work is a one-off. "It's normal that the players and supporters are going to be celebrating for a period of time, but we have had to come down to reality", Brighton boss Hughton said.

City finished third last season, managing 12 clean sheets, five behind the division's best of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester City player has won Leicester City's manager, Craig Shakespeare's heart, as a reliable striker, and is expected to partner Jamie Vardy in the attack, just as another Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi will make the squad. Expect them to be more ruthless and Guardiola to be much more savvy this time around.

City's defence will be drastically different to the side that kicked off last season when City beat Sunderland 2-1 in Guardiola's first game in charge. That is the vibe you get in Brighton, but I wouldn't want anyone to think it's pious or pompous, it isn't that.

"Now I'm ready to go back to this league and show everyone that I'm back". The league is shaping up to be one of the best to date.

'Conte could walk at Chelsea' - Sutton sees trouble brewing at Stamford Bridge
There's that many games on TV now you can watch and see and you kind of know what each player and each striker is like. Antonio Conte will walk away from Chelsea this season if his ambition is not matched, Chris Sutton has warned.

"It's normal where it's our first season in the Premier League and it's another brilliant challenge for us".

"We did it earlier and we are lucky because it would be more expensive now", said the Catalan. They will deservedly enjoy the ride but I think the club would view staying up as a bonus.

He added: "We played four games, one with four at the back and the last three with three at the back. We just made it for 60-70 percent for the chances we created and that's poor", he said. They could put out a second eleven that would be a more than respectable Premier League team on its own merit, once Guardiola chooses the hard task of selecting his best line up.

The main problem of the new football season is the absurdity of big-time football: the impossible sums of money, the reckless spending of it, salaries that make your nose bleed from sheer envy, the preposterous self-regard of so numerous players, the self-serving nonsense of the managers.

"We have to win and we have to be a better team than past year". If the club decides he is not able, we are going to take a solution.

SHIRT SLEEVE SPONSORSThe upcoming campaign will see Premier League clubs allowed shirt-sleeve sponsors for the very first time, although only the right sleeves will be used.

That Walker has been one of the best full-backs in England for the last couple of seasons was never up for debate.
