Opioid Epidemic Declared National Emergency

"Far too many lives have been lost and we have seen firsthand the tragedy that so many families in Western New York and across America face". When the press asked about that photo, the White House wouldn't confirm whether or not Trump golfed with Fazio on Wednesday.

GEOFF BENNETT, BYLINE: Hey, Audie.

BENNETT: Well, earlier this week, as we all know, the president warned North Korea against making any more threats to the USA, saying the country, in his words, will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.

The president was addressing reporters during his vacation at his New Jersey golf club before a security briefing with top advisers.

But while the Trump administration prepares the presidential order, governors in six states have already declared emergencies to deal with opioids. And it's about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries. Striking a defiant tone on Thursday evening, he told reporters: "Maybe it wasn't tough enough".

BENNETT: And the president also sounded pessimistic about finding a diplomatic solution to the North Korean threat.

Trump has said he believes US intelligence agencies' conclusions that Russian Federation meddled in the election, but he has dismissed the ongoing investigations into possible collusion between Moscow and his campaign aides as a "witch hunt".

Trump would not rule out a preemptive strike against Un's government. He said he wouldn't discuss any potential military options, but he did say the USA would retaliate if North Korea attacks Guam, which is a US territory. "He does something in Guam, it will be an event the likes of which nobody has seen before".

"The opioid crisis is an emergency, and I'm saying officially right now: It is an emergency".

Before he could perform the last task, which was nothing but a "suicide" attempt, the police saved him. The student from Chameli Devi School in Indore tried to jump off the third floor of his school.

Hours after President Donald Trump intensified his threat to rain "fire and fury" upon North Korea, Mattis said war would be "catastrophic".

Under a national emergency federal funding can be increased and directed toward programs to combat the problem.

Despite Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price's suggestion earlier this week that the Trump administration could address opioid abuse and overdoses without declaring a public health emergency, the president offered a different take on the issue Thursday.

Observers quickly related his remarks to President Harry S. Truman's fiery rhetoric in a statement 72 years ago, in which Truman announced toward the end of World War II that the US had dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He's been criticizing McConnell on Twitter over the last couple days.

With the president's announcement, GAPP believes they can get better resources and more people can get help.

CORNISH: So McConnell is essentially defending the last couple of months in Congress.

While Trump reiterated his warnings that he would not allow North Korea to threaten the U.S., he did stress his desire to find a peaceful resolution to the standoff.
