For model-year 2018, the Ram 3500 will get a few upgrades to its Cummins diesel engine and fifth-wheel hitch design, improving both towing and torque figures.

Ram has unveiled the 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup, which is powered by a Cummins 6.7L diesel, with an insane 930 lb-ft. of torque - the highest rating ever for a pickup. As a result, the engine now makes 30 lb-ft more torque than it did before. The forthcoming 2018 Ram 3500 HD cranks out 930 lb-ft. of torque, with a maximum fifth-wheel towing capacity of 30,000 lbs. when properly equipped.

According to Jim Morrison, Head of Ram Brand FCA North America, the torque increase was necessary to better meet the demands of today's heavy duty truck buyer. Ram's new hitch will allow customers to move away from Class 4 and 5 trucks to haul trailers that would have otherwise been limited to 24,000 lbs.

However, Ford's 5th wheel hitch assembly has a capacity of 27,500lbs, giving the factory-equipped Ram 3500 the lead in factory-equipped 5th wheel towing capacity while also leading in engine torque.

Sales of the Ram brand trucks have climbed in 2017.
