On Wednesday, about 100,000 citizens gathered in Pyongyang to support the government's pledge of retaliation against the USA, with smaller rallies held in provincial cities later, according to the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

North Koreans, including students, workers and retired soldiers, have requested to join or reenlist in the military in light of the governments earlier vows to retaliate against the United States, after the UN Security Council approved new sanctions against Pyongyang, the North Koreas Workers Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported, as quoted by Yonhap news agency.

On Aug. 5, the UNSC voted unanimously for fresh sanctions on North Korea following two tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles in July, prompting Pyongyang to warn of a "stern action of justice" against the US and a missile strike around the USA territory of Guam. North Korea has previously mobilized large crowds to show its resolve when tensions escalate.
