CIA Chief: Not Surprising If N. Korea Tests Another Missile

Following Trump's initial threat, North Korea threatened to target the tiny Pacific island of Guam, a USA territory that is home to large US air and naval bases. "No intelligence that would indicate we are in that place today".

But he rejected talk of the US being on the "cusp of nuclear war".

In a separate interview on "Fox News Sunday", Pompeo was asked about the nature and degree of threat to the USA mainland in light of Kim's continuing drive to develop North Korea's missile and nuclear capacities.

Pompeo's remarks cap a week in which US President Donald Trump vowed "fire and fury" if North Korea continued to threaten the United States with nuclear weapons, and Pyongyang countered by announcing plans to test-launch missiles toward Guam.

US Pacific Command, Commander Admiral Harry Harris, says that it is not their decision, It is India choice, to make a decision and to decide that what role they want to play.

When asked about how close the North was to being able to deploy a nuclear weapon that could hit the U.S., he said: "They're closer".

In an interview on "Fox News Sunday", CIA Director Mike Pompeo said he would not be surprised if North Korea carried out another missile test to advance its missile and nuclear programs.

Trump criticised over response to white supremacists
Terry McAuliffe, who declared a state of emergency following the unrest, is expected to visit Charlottesville today. A 32-year-old woman, Heather D Heyer was killed in the crash, Charlottesville Police Department said.

He added, "That's exactly the policy of the Trump administration".

Speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation", Pompeo said Trump had "made very clear that the United States finds it unacceptable for a rogue leader like Kim Jong Un to have the capacity of a ballistic missile with a warhead that is integrated and fully deliverable to the United States and hold America and the world at risk". The CIA chief described Kim as "rational" and responsive to "adverse circumstances".

Guam is a target because of its naval base and air force base, from which two B-1B supersonic bombers were deployed close to the Korean peninsula on Tuesday.

"Our response is we are prepared militarily to deal with this if necessary".

Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's official newspaper, said the volunteers had offered to join or rejoin the People's Army after the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) issued a statement on Monday condemning new sanctions imposed by the United Nations in retaliation for North Korean missile tests.

Pompeo also said that the problem has been ongoing through previous USA administrations, but he argued President Donald Trump was making strides to effect change. "But the objective of capable, ready forces is to preserve peace and prevent war".
