Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch remains seated during national anthem

Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat during the national anthem before Saturday night's preseason game between the Raiders and Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said he was unaware Lynch would sit for the anthem, but added that the two spoke afterward and described the running back's action as a "non-issue" to him.

Earlier, the dollar slipped as low as 108.91 yen, its weakest level since June 14, when the greenback fell as low as 108.81 yen. While the German DAX Index has edged down by 0.1%, the French CAC 40 Index and the UK's FTSE 100 Index are both down by 1%.

But that isn't something that should come as a surprise to fans given that Lynch hasn't stood for the anthem in 11 years, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Fallon Smith. I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem, but I'm going to respect you as a man. His locker was cleared by the time media was granted access to the locker room, multiple reporters said.

It's possible that Lynch has skipped the anthem in some settings, but Del Rio's statement made it sound like Lynch has consistently sat out the anthem throughout his career. When Kaepernick sat last summer, it didn't take long for the protesting to become not only an National Football League topic of discussion, but a country-wide discussion that was had.

"On Marshawn, talked to Marshawn trying to make sure we're on the same page", Del Rio said. Lynch voiced support for Kaepernick while speaking to talk-show host Conan O'Brien past year, and Saturday's sit-down came right after racially-motivated protests and violence recently took place in Charlottesville, Va.
