Scaramucci: Trump 'needed to be much harsher' on white supremacists

"I think he needed to be much harsher as it related to the white supremacists and the nature of that", Scaramucci said during an interview Sunday on ABC's "This Week".

"I think that there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda", the Manhasset financier told ABC News' "This Week".

On Sunday morning, short-lived, recently-ousted White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci gave his first interview since his departure from the Donald Trump administration.

"It's actually terrorism and whether it's domestic or worldwide terrorism, with the moral authority of the presidency, you have to call that stuff out", he said.

His firing capped a tumultuous period within the Trump White House.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNNMoney's request for comment about Scaramucci's remarks.

During the call, he called former chief of staff Reince Priebus a "f--ing paranoid schizophrenic".

"I wouldn't have given that statement", Scaramucci told Stephanopoulos.

"It was going to be very hard for me to stay in the job, given the fact the Gen. Kelly took over and so I respect Gen. Kelly", he added to White House chief of staff John Kelly.

Kelly faces a White House that's been plagued by leaks and controversies. "I want to be totally accountable for what I did, and obviously I paid the consequences of having that sort of conversation with him". But I think it's important for the people around him, George, to give him direct advice, to be blunt with him.

DONALD Trump has been slammed by his former press chief for not condemning white supremacists at a far-right rally that left one woman dead.
