Trump, Macron to work together on N. Korea

Trump and Macron spoke over phone and discussed the need to confront the increasingly unsafe situation regarding North Korea's destabilising and escalatory behaviour, the White House said.

In a statement, Macron voiced his "concern at the ballistic and nuclear threat coming from North Korea", saying the worldwide community needed to work to get Pyongyang to "resume the path of dialogue without conditions".

France and other UN Security Council members want North Korea "to conform without delay to its worldwide obligations and proceed with the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of its nuclear and ballistic programmes", Macron said in the statement.

France calls on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to comply without delay with its worldwide obligations and to prevent any escalating tensions, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Elysee.

US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron have spoken by phone and agreed to work together on a crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the White House says. "The relationship between the two Presidents is an extremely close one, and will hopefully lead to a peaceful resolution of the North Korea problem", the White House said. Trump in turn, warned, that North Korea's possible actions would be met with "fire and fury" from the United States.

Macron called on the worldwide community to act in "a concerted, firm and effective manner" so as to the DPRK back into unconditional recourse to dialogue, the statement added.
