Speaking at a press conference held at Arsenal's training base on Wednesday morning, Arsene Wenger said that PSG had not been in contact about Sanchez, later adding that the club are not open to any offers for the player. He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training.

He did, however, provide another update: that Sanchez had suffered an abdominal strain which would see him miss their Premier League opener at home to Leicester on Friday evening. "He is out for a while, could be two weeks but he will not be available for Stoke".

Giroud confirms Arsenal stay after opening-day victor against Leicester
Danny Welbeck levelled for Arsenal, but Vardy's second goal looked to have won it for Leicester until the sensational finale. Aaron Ramsey came off the bench to level with eight minutes remaining before Giroud wrapped up the points.

However, despite his short-term unavailability Wenger was far from certain over the future of a player who has always been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Having ended months of speculation by signing a new two-year contract, he is looking forward and says that if the team put on a united front, the fans will fall into line behind them. "I don't think I would have included him certainly on Friday night - I don't think I would have started him". The 23-year-old England worldwide has struggled to secure a regular place since arriving at Arsenal six years ago, but Wenger believes the winger has the potential to become a great player.

"I felt that to lose tonight would have been bad for us because we had such good preparation and to sit there in the morning and think we had lost at home would have been awful", he said. "Last year he was much more stable". I think he will not play at Stoke, yes. Wenger also confirmed goalkeeper David Ospina will stay at the club and fight for the No 1 shirt with Petr Cech this season.
