Actor and playwright, George B. Caroll, 42, and his wife Christina Romero Caroll, who is also an actor, were walking back to their Greenpoint home at around 9.30pm after visiting a local bar, investigators said.

Carroll, a devout Brooklyn Catholic, and his wife moved to Greenpoint in February after a neighbor in Cypress Hills flashed a box cutter at him, friends said.

Christina caught up with him as he was lying on the ground bleeding, police said.

George was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull where he was pronounced dead.

Cops say Carroll got into an argument with people on a stoop on the block, and after he and his wife walked away, the suspect followed them and stabbed Carroll in the chest.

No arrests have been made.

Christina Carroll, a native Brooklynite and actress, described her husband as a devoutly religious man who celebrated mass every day and always stood up for what was right. "His faith was his true north and he attended mass daily", Christina Carroll wrote on GoFundMe where she has raised almost $14,000 for his funeral.

"All I know for sure is that my heart is shattered and that I love him", she wrote.
