AIADMK Amma faction leader TTV Dhinakaran yesterday announced that a public meeting would be held in protest against the common medical entrance examination.

The AIADMK is holding its General Council meeting at Chennai now as the Madras High Court gave to go-ahead.

The Fifteenth City Civil Court Judge Patil Nagalinganna Gowda granted an interim stay on the meeting and posted the matter to September 13.

The decision to call a meeting was taken on 28 August at an AIADMK meeting.

Without getting the nod, Vetrivel has filed the suit, the judge said.

Edappadi K Palaniswami camp is expected to take resolutions against Sasikala which implies to the decision taken by her will be considered invalid.

Chennai: "There is no general secretary now", fisheries minister D. Jayakumar said on Monday when asked to comment on objection raised by TTV Dhinakaran faction that the general council of the party scheduled on Tuesday was "illegal" since it can not be convened without the approval of the general secretary. Accordingly, the notice was circulated stating that the General Council Meeting of AIADMK has been convened on September 12, 2017. Dismissing the plea, Justice C V Karthikeyan said the petitioner could either attend the general council by honouring the invitation extended to him or choose to have sumptuous lunch alone at the venue or alternatively ignore the invite and sit at home.

In the 235-member assembly, there are 234 members, including one nominated member without voting rights. Effectively, the number of legislators with voting rights in the assembly is 233.

"I request party cadres, students and those interested in the welfare of the state to take part in it", he said.

At a time when the two factions of the AIADMK were still warring with each other after the passing of erstwhile Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the Election Commission had held that neither faction could use the traditional AIADMK symbol of two parted leaves.

"There is no general secretary now...we don't have (a) general secretary now", he shot back when reporters pointed to him that Dhinakaran camp maintains that geceral Council can not be convened without the approval of the General Secretary (V.K. Sasikala).
