Qualcomm trolls Apple the day before the new iPhone

Qualcomm took to its newsroom blog today to take a nostalgic look at some of the innovations it helped to bring as Android OS firsts and a brief look into its future ambitions as the leading provider of SoCs and solutions for the mobile world.

Apple markets itself and their new products like they created creation itself, but they didn't.

"Qualcomm Technologies has enabled some notable world firsts on Android, and some remain Android exclusives to this day", it boasts.

Now, it's now at all hard to interpret Qualcomm's aggressive move to dampen Apple's iPhone product launch due to happen in the course of a few hours. The chip maker says that the Galaxy S8 is the first device enabled with Gigabit LTE connectivity.

As for augmented reality, Qualcomm points to Lenovo's Phab Pro 2, which supported Google's Tango platform, as a first.

There is also the argument that greater competition domestically, even if it comes from Bonucci and Milan, may help them. Whether anyone can beat them is still the biggest question, despite everything going on beneath the defending champions.

What do you guys think about this Apple - Android rivalry?

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is rightly credited as the smartphone that ushered in the era of barely-there bezels that has continued with the Galaxy S8 / Note 8 and LG G6 / V30. Qualcomm has also tested under-display fingerprint scanner and depth sensing through structured light on the company's reference design handset.

Overall Qualcomm's post reads like a counter-argument to claims by Apple that Qualcomm charges too much for its licensing fees and FTC's antitrust suit against Qualcomm over monopolistic behavior, which Intel and Samsung filed briefs for to oppose Qualcomm's efforts to have the case thrown out. Qualcomm is one company who has been in legal disputes over technological patents with Apple, which is why they did their part in dampening the hype around the next iPhone.

"The vibrant Android ecosystem is built on Qualcomm inventions and our industry-enabling horizontal model", it said.

Qualcomm also seems to think the HTC One M7 had a dual-camera system; it didn't.
