The explosion happened at about 3.45pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Several ambulances were seen speeding away from the scene, apparently taking the injured to hospital, an AFP reporter said.

A suicide bomber blew himself up near a cricket stadium in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, killing three people including a policeman and wounding five others, police said.

Cricket officials said that all the cricket players were safe.

Taliban militants have warned that they will be stepping up their attacks until the USA forces fully withdraw from Afghanistan.
