Democrats to Special Counsel Mueller: We Have Evidence Michael Flynn Broke Law

The project proposes to construct 40 nuclear reactors across the Middle East that would feed a regional electric grid.

Democrats say they have evidence that President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn broke the law by failing to disclose a trip that involved a potential business deal between the Saudi government and a Russian nuclear power agency.

"The American people deserve to know whether General Flynn was secretly promoting the private interests of these businesses" while acting in his official capacity as adviser to the Trump campaign, the transition and the president, the letter said.

Rep. Elijah Commungs, D-Md., and Eliot Engel, D-New York, sent the letter, which was not signed by any Republicans.

Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, declined to comment on the letter. The reactors would be "proliferation proof", meaning they could not be used to produce fuel for nuclear weapons.

Cummings is the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee and Engel is the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction regarding the security clearance process.

He said Wednesday the rights of all Spaniards will be upheld against "whoever steps outside constitutional and statutory law". If mayors and their municipalities can not help organize balloting, the vote is unlikely to proceed.

Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, campaign ally Carter Page, as well as the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner have also been under scrutiny in the investigation.

The letter sent Tuesday by Reps.

The whole thing would be "fully funded by the Gulf Arab states", according to its backers, and the improvement in stability and security it would yield in the Middle East meant Flynn "firmly believed in the necessity of the project from a USA national security perspective", they said.

The Flynn Intel Group reportedly took in $530,000 last year for work benefiting the Turkish government, though the elder Flynn only registered as a foreign lobbyist this year.

Flynn Jr. reportedly worked closely with him, including accompanying him on a 2015 trip to Moscow in which the retired general gave a speech at a gala for the state-sponsored RT network.

The inquiry into the younger Flynn, first reported by NBC News, follows other indications this week that investigators are increasing pressure on his father, retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who advised Trump during the campaign and briefly served in the White House before being ousted for misleading statements about his contacts with the Russian ambassador.
