High Court allows DUSU presidential poll results to be declared

New Delhi, Sep 13 Counting of votes for DUSU elections was underway at a community hall near Kingsway Camp here today amid tight security.

The Delhi high court has given a go-ahead to the Delhi University to declare the results for the post of president in the DU Students' Union (Dusu) election which was held on Tuesday. Last year, while ABVP had won the post of president, vice president and secretary, NSUI was elected to the post of joint secretary.

Final results are expected at around 12 noon. The High Court also pulled up the Delhi Police for not taking action or arresting the violators for the offence of defacing public properties which attracts a maximum jail term of 10 years. National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Akhila Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and other parties.

Students' Federation of India (SFI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has fielded Rafat Alam for the president's post while Jitendra Kumar, Kolisetty Lakshmi and Roshan have been nominated for the posts of vice-president, secretary and joint secretary respectively. "Despite several warnings and media reports, both NSUI and ABVP continue to use printed matter and litter the campus with their posters and pamphlets even on a no-campaign day".

Historically, a bipolar electoral affair, the election this year in Delhi University has seen the rise of another student group, the radical left AISA, which has found many supporters among students after the brawl at Ramjas College in February and turned the usually bilateral contest between the ABVP and NSUI into a multi-cornered fight. The candidates who win the elections must be responsible for all the activities which will take place at the University.

DUSU Election Result: All the contestants in the election are waiting for the election results. However, the varsity argued that partial results can not be declared as voting was conducted through the electronic voting machine (EVM). Finally, Delhi University Student Union Election result will be out in the afternoon.
