Larry King has been diagnosed with lung cancer, the legendary host told Extra, revealing that a routine trip to the doctor led to a surprising and scary discovery.

"I go for my checkup and they say, 'Let's do a chest X-ray, and the doctor said to me, 'Something looks amusing, '" King recalled in a new interview with Us Weekly. A small spot was found on King's lung, and Larry was scheduled for surgery.

"They took it out". Doctors removed the malignancy through a surgical procedure that went in through his ribs, and after a week of recovery, King was back to work on the sixth season of "Larry King Now".

King, who stopped smoking 30 years ago after his heart attack, battled prostate in the past. "I will probably die on the air", he joked.
