Marcelo agrees Real extension

Real Madrid assistant captain, Marcelo has extended his eleven year stay with the Los Vikingos's by signing a new contract until 2022, the club announced on Wednesday.

Earlier on Thursday (AEST), the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Marcelo will serve a two-match ban in Spain's top flight as a result of his red card against Levante last weekend.

Marcelo has made 414 appearances in total for Real and with his contract extension can expect to overtake Roberto Carlos's tally of 527 as the foreign player with the most appearances for the club.

Marcelo has been a part of four La Liga championship squads and has won three Champions League titles while with Real Madrid.

Official Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez wrote in his report that he saw Marcelo kick Lerma in the back away from the action.

The Brazilian was sent off in Real's 1-1 draw at home to Levante on Saturday for kicking out at an opponent.

The Brazilian worldwide, who on Wednesday also agreed a new long-term deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, will serve the suspension at Sunday's trip to Real Sociedad and the following La Liga game with Betis to be played the days later at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid have stuttered somewhat to start the new season, though, having drawn two of their opening three games.
