Spieth throws first pitch at Wrigley Field

The White Sox released their tentative 2018 schedule on Tuesday and as always there are several key dates to mark on the calendar.

Jordan Spieth is no stranger to throwing out a first pitch at a baseball game.

The Cubs have lost six of their last eight following a six-game winning streak, and their National League Central lead has dwindled to two games over St. Louis and 2 1/2 over Milwaukee. What is most pertinent is that they snap out of the immediate haze they are performing in, where save for an 8-2 victory last Thursday, they have managed a grand total of seven runs in the last eight days. Lester has had his bumps as well this season, but he's been far more consistent and is coming off a game in which he allowed just one run in six innings against the Pirates. Jake Arrieta will miss this weekend's showdown against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field as he recovers from a strained right hamstring and the Cubs don't really know when their Cy Young Award victor will be ready to rejoin the rotation.

Lester is 4-1 with a 3.97 ERA in six career starts vs. the Mets, including a 14-3 victory in NY on June 13 when he struck out 10 and allowed one run in seven innings.

Robert Gsellman struggled to just get through four innings. "It happened to be a home run".

Bryant's sac fly to the center field warning track in the eighth drove in Javier Baez to extend it to 8-2.

Jean-Claude Juncker urges European Union to 'catch the wind in our sails'
The future European finance minister would be in change of the new European Monetary Fund (EMF) as well, he said. They belong where freedom of expression reigns", Juncker said.

"There's only one time to really call a team meeting", Joe Maddon said Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

NY got a run back in the fifth on d'Arnaud's sac fly, but Schwarber lofted his homer to right center with two outs off Tommy Milone to make it 5-2.

Tampa Bay has split the first two games of the set held at the home of the Mets.

Kris Bryant delivered the biggest damage, hammering a three-run shot in a four-run fourth inning.

Contreras had been out since August 10 due to a right hamstring strain. The 28-year-old is 5-3 with a 4.03 ERA in 10 starts since joining the Cubs.

Again, the expectations of the Cubs repeating what they accomplished previous year is a ship that has long since left the shore and struck an iceberg.
