Wood did not go on to win the pageant, but Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, a self-identified Republican who would go on to win the crown, also took an opportunity to dig at Donald.

Jess Cagle, editorial director for People and Entertainment Weekly, asked the Texas representative what many saw as one of the toughest, most incisive questions of the night. "Was there? Tell me yes or no and explain".

Despite her answer and the viral standing ovation it's garnered, Wood was the fourth runner-up in the Miss America pageant. She answered saying that President Trump should have made a statement earlier to address the issue and in ensure that Americans "feel safe" as she believed it is "the number one issue" today.

Wood, a 22-year-old graduate from the University of Texas, did not mince words during the Q&A portion of the pageant.

Is anyone aware of any, uh, provisions in the Constitution that will allow Miss America to replace the current President of America? Her reason for inclusivity? And people were there for it.

Watch Wood's full response below.

In an interview before the preliminary event, Mund said she hopes to become the first elected woman governor of her state.

"Well played Miss Texas".

At the 2017 Miss America pageant a year ago, both Miss New York, Camille Sims, and Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields - who would go on to win the crown - were asked rather open-ended questions about the 2016 presidential candidates.

She said that "every minute we allow this to persist through tacit encouragement or inaction is a disgrace, & corrosive to our values".

The sting of defeat still fresh in her mind, Wood prepared herself for the possibility of falling short once again.

Although, we're sure 45 will offer up some sort of clap back for her criticism. But Wood wasted no time on milquetoast phrases.

During her own question segment, Mund was asked about Trump's decision to pull the USA from the Paris climate accords, which seek to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Congratulations are in order for all the contestants, and for the new crowned victor.
