Raw video released showing woman found dead in Rosemont hotel freezer

A Chicago community activist said Thursday that surveillance video from a suburban hotel shows Kenneka Jenkins entering a walk-in freezer alone.

Authorities have said Jenkins was seen on surveillance video staggering drunk near the front desk of the hotel around 3:20 a.m. Saturday, but the family said they were not told about that video until late Saturday night, and they don't believe police began reviewing surveillance video until Saturday afternoon. Crowne Plaza Hotel representatives stated previously that they had given police approximately 36 hours of surveillance footage taken from 40 different cameras. Police have also interviewed numerous people involved in the case, he said.

Since Kenneka's body was found, Rosemont Police and other law enforcement agencies have been investigating the circumstances of her death.

Police initially did not suspect foul play and learned that the teen may have gotten drunk at a party held at the hotel.

The lawyer's statement goes against what Chicago activist Andrew Holmes said a day earlier. She ended up in an "unsecured" kitchen area in a lower level of the hotel, Holmes said.

A source told WGN that the freezer door did not have a lock and it had a mechanism to open the door from the inside. Even though amateur sleuthes claimed Jenkins was killed, police said it was not a homicide investigation. Was anybody on the other side in that room when she got down there?

Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens complained Wednesday that such speculation was impeding the investigation by forcing detectives to chase spurious leads. She also reportedly said that the information that Holmes gave at the press conference was false.

Teresa Martin said despite a request she received from Holmes to stop the protest Thursday night, she attended the event and asked for demonstrators to remain peaceful. Holmes. "The answer to that is: no".

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Crowne Plaza told the Tribune that the hotel has offered to pay for the teen's funeral. However, when she arrived at the protest, she implied Holmes was misrepresenting her family. Many said they suspect a cover up. Her body was discovered in a basement walk-in freezer early Sunday morning, roughly 24 hours after she was last seen at a party on the 9th floor of the hotel.

Holmes said he was convinced no one else forced Jenkins into the area where she died. In Martin's estimation, her daughter's actions may have been influenced by substances outside of alcohol although a toxicology report has yet to emerge.

An autopsy was conducted, but Jenkins' cause of death was pending results, police and the medical examiner's office said.
