Northern Illinois stuns turnover-plagued Huskers

Northern Illinois secured a 21-17 statement win in what looks to be a wide-open MAC West competition this season. Northern Illinois also will visit Lincoln in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

"A lot of guys on that team we said "no" to". "We're not consistent offense in any part of our offense - running, blocking, making plays - so we could never recover from giving them two touchdowns early on and winning the game at the end".

The Northern Illinois defense held Nebraska in check for the entire first half, forcing a pair of punts and forcing a missed field goal in the subsequent Cornhuskers offensive possessions before halftime. He atoned a bit with two rushing touchdowns, but threw a third pick late in the fourth quarter when Nebraska was still in range to win. I would say the same thing about our staff, but everyone has to take it up a notch and we got to get moving in the right direction. "I think we were happy with that". "But we have to get going".

When Nebraska comes out of the tunnel ready to play - regardless of the competition - it avoids dumbfounding losses to teams the likes of Northern Illinois. It was Nebraska's first lead of the game, but the Huskies' dormant offense came to life when it was most critical.

When they fall behind at half, the Huskers are 7-8 with Riley at the helm.

"[The completion to Blake] got me into a rhythm, for sure", Santacaterina said. That's been us, and I don't like that. We have to better identifying quality. "It's not like the old days where MI in the late '70s and early '80s took everybody so nobody else had a player".

"I just tried to get our guys to relax and play ball down was tough sledding there". And, although it came in victory, Nebraska had a similarly poor start when it lead Arkansas State just 27-26 in the season opener two weeks ago.

Thankfully, no casualties nor injuries. "All your concerns appreciated", Rishi had tweeted earlier in the evening. The fire broke out at around 2:32PM in the afternoon and around 10 fire engines were sent to the spot.

While the Nebraska's offense was stagnant, Northern Illinois' wasn't great either.

Said Nebraska linebacker Luke Gifford: "We are going to keep busting our tails".

"I've said, and I won't back down on this, I like this team and I like their work ethic", he said.

Ketter, a 2013 graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School, has overcame injuries and bided his time to make the climb from walk-on to starter in his career at Nebraska.

Nebraska stays home next Saturday to face Rutgers in its annual Homecoming game.

Three Huskies totaled double figures in tackles for the second time this season with Bobby Jones (14), Kyle Pugh (11) and Mykelti Williams (10) a big part of a game defensive effort. "We have a good group of young men in that locker room who are working really hard to represent us and win ballgames". "We have to get to Monday, so we can get better".
