Marilou Danley, the longtime girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, is once again a person of interest in the deadliest shooting in modern USA history.

In the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, six miles from her hotel at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Stephen Paddock had broken the windows with a hammer and started spraying down automatic fire from a 32-story perch on people who were attending the Route 91 Festival.

Investigators were examining a $100,000 wire transfer Paddock sent to an account in the Philippines that "appears to have been intended" for Danley, a senior US homeland security official told Reuters on Tuesday.

Lombardo said he is "absolutely" confident authorities will find out what set off Paddock, a high-stakes gambler and retired accountant.

The police recovered "in excess of" 18 additional firearms, explosives and several thousand rounds of ammo at the home of the rescued in Mesquite, the Las Vegas Sheriff has said, in connection with a shooting spree last night in Las Vegas that left more than 50 people killed.

Danley's brother, Reynaldo Bustos, told ABC News that his sister "hadn't been to the Philippines since 2014, when she going through marital problems with her former husband".

Suarez said the Federal Bureau of Investigation considered Danley a "person of interest", but not necessarily a suspect.

According to Ms. Danley's sisters, who spoke to CNN-affiliate Australia 7 News on the condition of anonymity, Paddock had sent her away prior to the massacre. "I didn't even know he knew about guns", Mr Knights said.

Investigators are yet to discover Paddock's motive for the shooting. Authorities had been trying to track down Paddock's girlfriend since the attack happened and found out she had been visiting family in the Philippines.

Makeshift memorials have sprung up on Las Vegas Boulevard to remember the victims.

He said none of the cameras he put up in the hotel room where he unleashed gunfire onto a concert crowd across the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday night were recording. Paddock reportedly killed himself as officers closed in on the hotel room he had chosen to carry out the attack.

In a statement read by her lawyer, the 62-year-old said she knew Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man, and that she loved him and hoped for a quiet future with him.
