Samsung Unveils Windows-Based Virtual Reality Headset

Samsung's HMD Odyssey VR headset is here and it packs dual 3.5-inch AMOLED screens, AKG headphones, two cameras for spacial awareness and two motion controllers.

The vast possibilities of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) has lured a number of technology giants to make a foray, and Microsoft Corporation is not the one to stay behind. The headset requires a connection to a PC running on a Windows 10 update being released October 17. The HMD Odyssey has been revealed and users are already able to preorder it. The Gear VR sells for $40 to $130. "Working with Microsoft to include SteamVR compatibility with these devices is also a big step in growing VR as an open platform for developers and consumers". However, there is no information regarding the pricing and availability of the VR headset. For one, this is the first time we have been given any kind of a timeline for Steam support, rather than assuming Microsoft is nowhere close. It is said to be more optimised for lower-spec PCs.

Yesterday, IHS Markit told MCV it expects Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality headsets will have a "slow start" when they launch later this month, but SuperData's VP of research and strategy Stephanie Llamas predicts it will actually outsell both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive this quarter. This means that it won't squeeze your head, like other headsets do.

Bangladesh to move 800000 Rohingya into single camp
They plan to expand an existing camp near the border town of Cox's Bazar so that it can accommodate around 800,000 people. The UN has described the government-sanctioned crackdown on Rohingya as "a textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

Facebook, another company without its own smartphone operating system, also is betting on VR that works on standalones headsets build by its Oculus subsidiary.

Google, meanwhile, is expected to unveil the next generation of its Daydream VR headsets for Android-powered phones at a showcase Wednesday. Unlike the most of the VR headset, this also requires a high-end computer or laptop with powerful hardware, CPU and GPU with at least 8 GB of RAM to have a seamless uninterrupted VR headset.
