Stephen Paddock, the man behind the mass shooting that left more than 50 people dead and almost 500 hurt in Las Vegas, may have planned event attacks in Chicago and Boston, according to media reports Thursday.

In Chicago, Paddock didn't just research hotel rooms overlooking an outdoor festivals, he booked some.

Lollapalooza was held from August 3 to 6 this year, and Paddock had booked the room from August 1 to 6 and August 3 to 6, according to the United States site.

A law-enforcement official speaking on the condition of anonymity told AP that there was no evidence Paddock ever went to Chicago that weekend.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement issued Thursday that it was aware of the media report about the Blackstone Hotel booking during Lollapalooza and is tightening security plans for upcoming major events happening in Chicago including the Chicago Marathon this Sunday.

The annual music festival, which draws an estimated 100,000 music fans each summer, takes place directly across Michigan Avenue from the Blackstone in Chicago's Grant Park.

The official, who was not authorized to comment publicly, said Thursday that information referencing other locations is being drawn from investigators' continuing analysis of Paddock's communications devices.

Police also confirmed that Paddock had rented a room at the Ogden, a condo building, in September, overlooking the Life is attractive music festival in Las Vegas, which ran from September 22 to 24, but it is not known why.

These new disclosures suggest Paddock might have been planning an attack months before the massacre in Las Vegas. A high-stakes gambler and regular at the Mandalay Bay, Paddock checked into his 32nd-floor suite on September 28, three days before his meticulously planned attack.
