Jessica Chambers Murder Case 1st Days Trial

DeSoto County, Mississippi, District Attorney John Champion contended in his opening remarks, on Tuesday, that Chambers could have been trying to say Tellis' name, but her mouth and throat were too damaged by burns, the Associated Press and Fox News report.

The night a 19-year-old MS woman was burned to death, she and her killer had sex in her auto and he thought he had suffocated her before he torched her vehicle with her inside, a prosecutor said Tuesday in an opening statement, presenting his theory of what led to the gruesome slaying.

After authorities found 19-year-old Jessica Chambers burning alive almost three years ago on a back-road in Courtland, Mississippi, she told them she'd been set on fire by someone named "Eric" or "Derek" - or, at least, that's what it sounded like she said. She was on fire when she was found next to her burning auto along a back road in Courtland, Mississippi, on December 6, 2014. "She was attempting to reveal to us her identity", said Davis.

Tellis allegedly realized Chambers was still alive and that is when he drove Chambers' vehicle with her inside down a backroad, got in his sister's auto, grabbed gasoline and doused both Chambers and the vehicle before lighting them on fire.

Jessica was found walking near her vehicle just after 8 p.m., Champion said.

The prosecution reportedly argued that Tellis - previously described as a "habitual" criminal offender - tried to suffocate Jessica after the two had sex in her auto that night. At least eight first responders reportedly claim Chambers gave them the name "Eric" when asked who set her on fire. "At one point I even laid down beside her".

Firefighter Daniel Cole testified on Wednesday at the capital murder trial for Quinton Tellis, the man accused of killin 19-year-old Jessica Chambers.

"I asked who did this to you". Records showed that her client was buying a Green Dot card 5 miles away at the time of the crime, she said.

Palmer told jurors that Tellis never confessed to the killing.

"She didn't say any other name", Palmer said.

"He insisted this is not something he would do", Palmer said.

Tellis has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Jessica Chambers.

First responder Cole Haley, Chief of Courtland Fire Department, recalled arriving at the scene.

Authorities analyzed over 20,000 telephone numbers as part of the investigation and 40 people are listed in court documents as potential witnesses in the trial, WREG reported.

First up, Champion. Describing Chambers as a "beautiful, blonde-haired 19-year-old", he set the basis of the state's case.
