Richard Branson To Invest In Elon Musk's Hyperloop One

Branson, who described the endeavor as the world's most revolutionary train service, said that as a train owner (his company owns a train network in the United Kingdom in addition to an airline and other ventures), he felt this is something he wants to be able to operate.

Hyperloop One is developing a system theorized by entrepreneur Elon Musk for rail transport at near-supersonic speeds, and in August announced that a test of full hyperloop system at its private facility in the desert near Las Vegas was a success, hitting record speeds.

The hyperloop works by propelling pods through tubes using magnets reaching speeds akin to those of airplanes. The air-tight tubes need to be closer to true vacuum, the maglev acceleration needs to increase which will require more power, and protecting hyperloop tracks from environmental factors such as earthquakes is still a major concern.

On their website, Virgin said: 'Ever since our creation, Virgin has been known for disruption and investing in innovative companies. The goal of the company under the rebrand remains the same, and it'll continue to explore the best places and partners for deploying its high-speed transportation tech, which will zoom pods at high speed down extremely low pressure tubes to reduce trip times over land from hours to minutes.

"We're incredibly excited about the technology behind Virgin Hyperloop One and the way it could transform passengers' lives", he said.

The technology for Hyperloop One is now in the early stages of commercialisation, after the successful completion of the first full-scale hyperloop systems test.

US Bombers Fly Over Korean Peninsula in Show of Force
USA officials have voiced their concern that Kim Jong-un's nation could launch cyber attacks on American infrastructure. There were even concerns that North Korea prepped hundreds of computers for a massive attack on its southern neighbor.

Branson said he was "looking forward to helping turn this cutting edge engineering into a global passenger service", he added.

Before we can fly through vacuum tubes at almost the speed of sound, however, hyperloop technologies will need to advance quite a bit.

'This is just the latest example'.

As part of the deal, Branson will join the board of the California startup, which will be renamed Virgin Hyperloop One in the coming months, according to a joint statement.

Branson said the company was working on "exciting projects" around the world but no lines have been confirmed as yet.
