Microsoft is not the only tech company to draw on customer data for personalized advertising. If you use the Microsoft Edge browser on your PC and install the Edge preview for Android, your favorites and reading list will by synced across all your devices.

This style of sharing is all part of Microsoft's push to build an ecosystem around your Windows 10 devices that can easily include Android and iOS mobile devices for cross platform/device sharing. Microsoft needs to make it clear to users that they can reject the data collection as well. The company does not clearly inform users that it continuously collects personal data about the usage of apps and web surfing behaviour through its web browser Edge, when the default settings are used.

According to the Dutch data protection authority, Windows 10 is in violation of local privacy laws concerning the use of automated data collection. Because of the company's approach to data collection, the users can't provide valid consent to Microsoft, according to the European Union data protection legislation.

Vice-Chairman of the Dutch DPA, Wilbert Tomesen, called on Microsoft to give users the "fair opportunity" to decide whether they want their data collected.

A Maine-Sized Hole Has Opened up in Antarctica's Ice Blanket
The going theory on what caused it has to do with water currents and a flow of warmer water rising up and melting the ice. A mysterious "hole" larger than Maryland has reappeared in the middle of Antarctica after 42 years.

The application is not yet launched officially, and for both the platform it is an unreleased app, but the difference is that on iOS platform an only limited number of users can use it while on Android anyone can download it. Now Microsoft is trying to get some user base for Microsoft Edge by releasing it to the 2 most popular mobile operating systems.

As operating systems and browsers become more and more secure malicious actors are finding it increasingly more worthwhile targeting the unchanging weak link in the chain, the user, using techniques such as phishing and spear phishing to trick users into willingly giving up their important data and credentials. Microsoft Edge will pull up the reading and information right onto your screen.

Specifically, in Windows 10 Home and Pro, the DPA finds that Microsoft does not clearly inform users about the type of data it is collecting, and for which goal.

As explained by Microsoft in its blog post, one of the key features of the Edge browser is its ability to create one continuous browsing experience for Windows 10 users across multiple devices. On installation the telemetry level is set to full by default and the user is asked to accept the offered settings. "Next week, we have even more privacy improvements coming in the Fall Creators Update", the firm said. As a matter of fact, launching the iOS and Android versions of the browser is no assurance that it will dominate and push others aside; a lot still has to be done.
